We talk with the experts – C.G.Masi wrote a book on his expertise of preparing a shop in “How to set up a MC Shop” His well acclaimed book has helped hundreds to establish & prepare for mc building or repair.

You can’t do a good job without good tools! MC repairman aficionado and grease monkey  John joins us to discuss getting the right tool for the job!

Hardtails Cycle Shop -Paul  clocks 20 thousand plus miles every year combing the swap meet circuits buying and selling parts. Paul juggles a busy mc shop, home life & being a parts finder extraordinaire on a daily basis and clues us in on how to be resourceful in finding the parts you need for those restorations, vintage projects, foreign jobbers or just good ole billet for your motorcycle.

January 19, 2012 - Antique Motorcycle Auctions 2012

Happy New Year 2012 and what a great way to start it by going off to Vegas for a week of good meetings, good friends and really great bikes! That’s what the Mid America & Auctions America Auctions were like!
Friends like George Frizzell, Buzz Walneck, John Parham, Sam Zell, Mike & Carolyn Tomas, Dave Dispain and so many others that were, but were not talking about friends were talking about MOTORCYCLES! And man what unbelievable marques were there!  1929 Cleveland Tornado, 1916 Pope, 1928 Brough Superior, 49 Vincent  Shadow, should I go on b cuz there were plenty more to mention…how bout the 1894 Roper Steam Motorcycle... or the 1899 De Dion-Bouton 3 Wheeler... the Yale, The Sears, Flying Merkel. Henderson Four, Excelsior Twin... Italian, German, English, Indian... OMG I died and went to Antique heaven!

I say... You meet the nicest and smartest people around old motorcycles…okay that may have been pretty biased but gawd do I love the old iron and share that with many like-minded people!

This week, Open Road Radio highlight’s some of the people that have made a difference in motorcycling by putting these fabulous shows together. First up on the block is Ron Christenson of Mid America Auctions celebrating their 21st year in Antique Motorcycle Auctions! Ron has and his team put together a room full of exciting desirable collections…including some of Steve McQueens... SOLD!!!

Glenn Bator -Motorcycle Specialist for Auctions America joins us to comment on some of the exclusive collections RM was representing just a few short miles away… which also included a market seminar moderated by SPEED commentator and motorcycle guru Dave Dispain…Chicago native & car and motorcycle collector Joe Bortz chimes in to discuss that lively discussion held in the Auction Arena Sat morning!

I am heading to the New York International Motorcycle Show tomorrow one I have never been to and ALWAYS wanted to go…New York are you kidding? Mike Caudill joins us today to highlight some of the features of the New York show which is typically one of the BEST IMS Shows on the circuit...

Author, rider, tour guide Liz Jansen drops in to discuss some of the prominent women riders and friends she is collaborating with at several of the IMS Shows this year to bring a message of  Speed Endurance & Adventure to show goers!

January 5, 2012 Winners of 2011

Happy New Year 2012 and good riddance 2011... 2011 was a challenging for many…we saw many dealerships and small business close, others bought out... promotions for events dwindled and some motorcycling events all together disappeared…but on the upside there were many good things that happened Polaris buying Indian took the industry by surprise…a good move thought by many, the expansion & technology of the electric motorcycle to debut in dealerships this February... as well... businesses took a good look at the bottom lines and made important decisions... not a lot of new products were introduced but many products merged with other companies sustaining their lifeline…which brings us to the winners of 2011 and an hour doesn’t fill the need to tell all…

Gloria Struck is proud to be 86 and still riding! Gloria known to many as one of the earliest members of the Motor Maids and inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2011.. Gloria joins us to discuss being a female rider for over 65 years!
